Classic Furniture Care

WOOD SURFACES

Avoid using alcohol-based cleaners, oil, strong solvents (acetone) and/or bleach on wooden surfaces whether they are varnished or painted.

A dry duster or a well drained soft cloth mildly damp with water is sufficient to clean the surfaces. If the water is not well drained from the cloth, the drops may stain the upholstery fabric or leave stains on the surface of the wood.

The varnish/paint used is waterproof. After knocks and/or deep scratches, the wooden surfaces become more sensitive to the cleaning water, but a well-drained cloth cannot cause further damage.

Particular care must be taken to avoid damage while mopping with a mop which is not drained properly and is being used with abrupt movements.

The lot of water on the floor is likely to cause scratches on furniture legs, causing water to penetrate from there causing a slight bloating to the wood and coating, but will not cause severe irreversible damage to the furniture.

For the finishing of our furniture we use varnishes in various versions, for matte surfaces (10%) that are used in the coats, as well as glossy (80-100%). This glossy coating preserve the shine for many years and you do not have to resort to various furniture polishing commercial products.

If for some reason you want to modify the intensity of the gloss on your furniture, this is best done by experienced carpenters and not by commercial polish.

Finally, protect wooden surfaces from hot, moist or sharp utensils using coasters, placemats and tablecloths.

UPHOLSTERY FABRICS

The fabric is the most sensitive part of the furniture since it is the one that receives the most friction during use.

Although there are durable fabrics that meet thousands of friction standards and can be easily cleaned, there are also highly sensitive fabrics such as velvet, satin, etc. which need more care to protect them from unwanted stains and scratches, through the use of throws and covers.

As far as the seats are concerned in sofas, chairs and armchairs, their pillows/ should always be used, because without them eeven normal use can cause serious damage to their upholstery.
